新年の富士山

2026年1月5日。美しい富士山。この富士山を見れただけでありがたい気持ちになります。不思議な雲がかかっていて、さすがです。

昨夜は長松寺の新年初総講、今日は10時から妙深寺本堂で大切な企業の新年の一座。美しい富士山が見れたり、不思議な雲たちも見れたり、うれし、おもしろ、でした。

26年間、変わらず続けてきた京都と横浜の往復。よく続きました。これからも命あるかぎり由緒寺院長松寺を佛立魂ごとお守りしなくてはならないと覚悟しています。

満月のお正月

三が日が過ぎます。今夜は満月。すごいお月さまでした。

妙深寺伝統の除夜法要ですが、時代は変わり、お参詣が少なかったようです。超少子高齢化はもちろん、コロナ禍、テレワーク、オンライン社会の到来、近所のセブンイレブンも0時で閉まるし、元旦の百貨店も休業の時代。大晦日の夜に動く方々は圧倒的に少なくなったようです。

元旦会は大勢のお参詣でしたが、それでもお参りは例年より少なかったです。三が日参詣も多くはなかったと思います。みなさん、それぞれの時間にパラパラとお参りされています。年賀状の数も圧倒的に変わりました。去年と今年、まったく違うようです。

目には見えない巨大な分岐点。それがいったい何なのか分かりませんが、とてつもない変化が訪れているのだと思います。「時代は変わった」と言うにしても、「佛立講は開化第一」ですからその変化を見落とすわけにはいきません。

見落として、見過ごして、タイミングを逃し、ズルズルと課題を先送りしていたなら、たとえお寺だって衰退します。大切な心を受け継ぐ場所ですから、簡単なはずはありません。気を抜いていたら、あっという間に断絶してしまう。

御教歌

「そはよしと互に顔を見合せてとても出来ぬとあほはいふなり」

「あほか」と叱られたくないし、速やかに、しなやかに、心を合わせて、やりましょう。「できない」なんて言い訳をしていても仕方ない。やるしかない。僕たちなら出来るはずです。

今年の指針の中で「オフライン重視」があります。目の前の人と出会える有難さ。オンラインの時代だからこそ、自分で足を運び、時間を使い、お参りする尊さは何倍にもなるはず。電車やバスを乗り継ぎ、車を運転して、ここにいてくれる。その凄さ、この奇跡を、大事にしたいと思います。

明日は京都に帰ります。慌ただしく往復することになりますが、とにかく新年の長松寺のご奉公に上がらせていただきます。

New Year's Greetings, for INS from Seijun Nagamatsu

A Happy New Year!

This is Seijun Nagamatsu. New Year's greetings from Japan.

Happy New Year to all HBS members in Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, including Myoshinji, Choshoji, Daihakurenji Temple, Nepal Betsuin, Kathmandu Meeting Center, and Galle Meeting Center.

I sincerely hope that this year will be a wonderful one for you.

As you know, we are in the midst of one of the greatest periods of change in human history.

The climate crisis is causing large-scale disasters around the world, causing many to lose their homes, possessions, and family.

The evolution of AI will transform society and work. Unfortunately, many people may lose their jobs. This is very frightening.

The number of people suffering from mental illness is also increasing. Even with advances in science and an increase in medications, no cure for the human mind has yet been developed. The suffering of mental illness is endless. There is nothing more frightening than the darkness in the heart.

Now is the time to spread true Buddhism.

True Buddhism, the Primordial Buddhism, the noble Finest Dharma, is needed all over the world.

No problem can be solved by a single country alone. However, many countries have become conservative, supporting nationalism. This is foolish and unfortunate.

In fact, now is the time to join forces across national and ethnic boundaries. As Rabindranath Tagore said, “there was a time when Asia was united by Buddhism.”

He is absolutely right.

Now is the time for the world to be united by true Buddhism.

Please note that the devoted members of HBS, Sri Lanka HBS and Daibyakurenji are many of the Primordial Bodhisattvas who appear in the Eight Chapters of the Lotus Sutra. Each is a leader, each a wonderful being. Don't forget that you were part of the Eight Chapters of the Lotus Sutra. You are one of a kind.

Primordial Buddhism, Honmon Butsuryu Shu, inherits the teachings of the Lotus Sutra's Honmon Happon and the eternally living Lord Buddha, Bodhisattva Jogyo, Nichiren Shounin.

As the new year begins, here are some essential teachings.

Please keep in mind:

・The Odaimoku of Namu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo is medicine for your mind. Sometimes your mind sinks into darkness. When you are in pain, chant Odaimoku, Namu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo towards Gohonzon. Goriyaku is sure to come.

・Namu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo and Odaimoku Chanting are the highest and greatest practice. Without these, there is no Primordial Buddhism.

・If you want blessings, accumulate merit (kudoku). Without merit (kudoku), there will be no blessings. Blessings will not be delivered.

・Goshinjin (faith) means prioritizing priorities. You can either prioritize your own desires, or temple visits (oko), Gohoukous, and various services.

・Respect your Master. It's not only me. It's Ryojun-shi and Seiran-shi. It's Gakutos. Respect each other. No one leaves HBS because they dislike Gohonzon or Odaimoku. They leave because of interpersonal relationships. It's Zaisho and Houbou. It's very unfortunate. It's practice because you're in a circle of people. You must not leave. HBS training cannot be done alone.

・The training that brings the greatest merit, the training that eliminates Zaisho, is "Sankei" and "Shakubuku (Kyoke)." These are the two. This year, do your best, practice Sankei, and Shakubuku & Kyoke.

I hope that this year will be filled with happiness for everyone.

新年のご挨拶

新年あけましておめでとうございます。
怒涛の元旦も夜となりました。

謹んで新年のご挨拶を申し上げます。

本年中のご健康とご多幸を心よりご宝前にご祈願しております。

佛立開導日扇聖人の御教歌

「あなうれしあなおもしろのふたつよりいふことのなきわが身也けり」

厳しい世相ではありますが、今年は「嬉しい」「面白い」を心の指標とし、歓喜踊躍のご奉公に至りたいと願っております。仏教の帰結が智慧ではなくポジティブな感情であることに感動いたします。
日々に「うれしさ」や「おもしろさ」を発見し、感謝と感動の一年を過ごせたらとありがたいです。

みなさま、本年もどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

素晴らしい新年となりますことを心から祈念しております。

Arigatou gozaimasu.

With the New Year now upon us, we have entered 2026. I would like to offer my sincere New Year’s greetings.

I pray before the Gohonzon, Sacred Presence for the health, happiness, and well-being of each and every one of you throughout the year.

A Gokyoka (a didactic waka poem composed by HBS founder Nissen Shōnin):

“Ah, how joyful; ah, how wondrous—

with only these two words,

there is nothing else left for me to say.”

Though these are challenging times, I hope that this year we may take “joy” and “wonder” as the compass of our hearts, and devote ourselves in service with kanki-yuyaku—a spirit of joyful, dancing gratitude. I am deeply moved by the truth that the conclusion of Buddhism is not merely wisdom, but also a truly positive state of heart.

If, day by day, we can discover moments of “joy” and “wonder,” and live this year with gratitude and inspiration, it would be a profound blessing.

I humbly ask for your continued support and friendship in the year ahead. With all my heart, I pray that this will be a wonderful New Year for you.
